Two Powerful Questions for Emotional Eaters

2powerfulquestions

“We eat the way we eat because we are afraid to feel what we feel.” ~ Geneen Roth

The next time you want to eat beyond satisfaction or eat when you’re not physically hungry, stop and ask yourself the following questions…

1. What emotion am I experiencing right now? What is so horrible about feeling this emotion that makes me want to eat instead? Be as specific as possible.

2. Can I experience the discomfort of this emotion in my body without eating? Why or why not?

Our fear of + resistance to feeling negative emotions are much bigger problems than the emotion itself.

Who Succeeds at Losing Weight (for GOOD)

succeed2

I’ve been counseling women on weight loss for a number of years now. Those who succeed have one thing in common. They are whole-heartedly committed to becoming a person who lives a healthy lifestyle. They are committed to transforming their identity – not just their dress size.

If you want to lose a significant amount of weight (for good), you must become a healthier person. You must fundamentally change the way you think about yourself. And changing the way you think about yourself will drive actions that support your new identity.

Permanent change happens when we go all in – when we want to become a person who has lost the weight for good more than anything.

Ask yourself, am I embracing my weight loss journey or cursing it? In other words, do you view the process of losing weight as a necessary “evil” that needs to be endured, or an adventure that will ultimately result in a healthier and happier you?

To obtain success, you must value the process of transformation even more than the destination.

Geneen Roth sums it up beautifully…

“Ask yourself if you are in this for the long run – if it’s only your weight you want to change or if you are willing to use your eating patterns as a portal to the inner universe. And if the answer is the latter, then there is no end to what you can learn, be, understand, become.”

If the answer is the latter, then let’s chat Chickadee.

The Art of Joy Eating

joy

I’ve been trying to write a blog post for y’all about Joy Eating for weeks. It’s one of the most integral weight coaching topics. Invariably, I veer off in a different direction every time I go to work on it.

There’s just too much to share. A blog post simply won’t do.

SO, I recorded a call and set up a web page devoted to the topic. And it’s all yours – for FREE. No strings. Why? I want as many women as possible to find peace with food and their bodies. It’s my mission. My passion.

Over the weekend, I started reading Chris Guillebeau’s new book, The Happiness of Pursuit. His book isn’t about weight loss, but he wrote something that made me go hmm.

“Losing weight or getting out of debt are worthy pursuits, but they shouldn’t be a lifelong focus.”

And that’s exactly what this work is about – helping women end the struggle with food so they can get on with their brilliant lives.

The call is only 12 minutes long. Click here to get access and be sure to check out the coaching tool included on the page. It’s called the Tedious Powerful Worksheet – and it ROCKS!

Until next week. Mwah!

Please, Don’t Ever Give Up on Yourself

please

“The secret of life…is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.” -Paulo Coelho

What’s going on in your mind can either make or break you. I can’t stress that enough. Reaching a goal has everything to do with your beliefs and your attitude.

And one of the most destructive (and common) thoughts I hear when it comes to weight loss is…

I can’t do this.

If we believe that we can’t do it, we won’t. Once we attach ourselves to can’t, there is absolutely no way we’ll do what it takes to reach our goals. We’re done. Checked out. Time to throw in the towel and break out the donuts.

This type of thinking comes in a variety of flavors…

  • I’ll always be fat.
  • Nothing else has worked, so why bother.
  • I know I’m going to fail – again.
  • This isn’t going to work.
  • This is too hard.

Most of my clients have been on a slew of diets. They’ve invested countless dollars and hours in pursuit of their goal – permanent weight loss. And they’ve often created buckets of evidence for failure along the way.

Tried Weight Watchers and failed.
Tried Atkins and failed.
Tried working out like a crazy person and failed.
Tried the green smoothie diet and failed.
Tried Nutrisystem and failed.

So the minute things don’t go as planned, it’s easy to jump right back on the defeatist bandwagon.

I didn’t lose weight this week. This isn’t going to work.

I binged on cookies. I’ll always be fat.

I stopped journaling after only three days. I know I’m going to fail.

I’m not losing weight fast enough. I can’t do this.

Want to guarantee failure. Keep on believing that you’re going to fail.

You don’t have to choose defeatist thoughts love. When you notice the failure talk running rampant in your mind, try on one of these beauties instead…

  • I will never give up on myself.
  • I’m worth the work.
  • I’m willing to try.
  • I know this is hard, but I can do hard things.
  • Change isn’t easy, but nothing is harder than staying stuck where you don’t belong.

I personally tried to lose the weight for good twenty, maybe twenty five times before finally succeeding. Heck, I joined (and quit) Weight Watchers on at least five different occasions.

I want you to know that you can keep trying. I want you to know that you are worth the effort. Even if you’ve tried and failed thirty or forty times or FIFTY times…

…please, don’t ever give up on yourself.
